Godt at vide

  • The judges were all struck by the purity of Côte des Blancs specialist Delamotte, sister house of Salon in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. President Didier Depond believes in the ‘freshness and poise’ of Chardonnay, which here comes entirely from grand cru villages (with just 8% Pinot Noir, also from grand cru villages of the Montagne de Reims). Based on the ripe 2020 vintage, with a modest 15% reserve wines, the class of the source material shines in this exemplary bottling. Tom Hewson: Very alluring bright cherry, honey and brown butter richness. Serious, with stony minerality, dried flowers and mandarin/grapefruit. Stunning. Eugenio Egorov: Fresh redcurrants, cranberries and apples, notes of tangerine and bread crust. Rounded fruit is balanced by lively acidity, with a light mousse. Victoria Mason MW: Nutty oxidative aromas, flinty funk, creamy white peach and lemon curd. This is complex and intense, with a vibrant, pink grapefruit, tangy freshness. Persistent and elegant.

  • The quality of this NV rosé is subtle, with such beautiful aromas of cherry, orange peel, pomegranate and honeysuckle. Hints of bitter lemon and sliced strawberry. Medium body with very fine bubbles and a creamy, lively finish. The base is 2021. Two years on the lees. Dosage 7.5g/L. Small production.

  • Oeil de perdrix color. A moderately fruity nose offers up notes of raspberry, strawberry and rose petal that are trimmed in discreet yeast and brioche nuances. There is a highly refreshing aspect to the utterly delicious and seductively textured flavors that possess sneaky good complexity on the dry, clean, focused and cool finale that is supported by a relatively fine effervescence. This is really quite good as one sip invites the next as the dryness is just enough to be clean without falling over into austerity.

  • As the fifth oldest Champagne House, Delamotte was founded in the mid-18th century. Primarily Pinot Noir with a smaller percentage of Chardonnay, this Rosé Champagne starts off with inviting aromatics of red cherry, red rose petal and blood orange. The palate mimics the nose with red fruits and a touch of citrus rounding out this delightful Rosé Champagne.

  • The NV Champagne Rosé is a blend of 80% Chardonnay and the rest Pinot Noir, with the base of 2019, and 15% still red wine. It pours a salmon/orange-tinged hue and opens in the glass to fresh, floral, pretty aromas of nectarine, salted orange, fresh rose petal, and curry spice. Medium-bodied, it has a wonderful chalky and pithy texture, with a pinpoint mousse that’s almost an afterthought. Ripe with fruit but well-balanced and long, with mouthwatering acidity, its spicier notes (cardamom, perhaps?) start to reveal themselves as it opens, and the wine lasts long on the palate. It is quite distinctive. Drink 2024-2040. 8 grams per liter dosage.

  • Disgorged in June 2018, the latest release of Delamotte's NV Brut Rosé is showing very well, offering up notes of orange rind, rhubarb, white cherries, pastry cream and brioche. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and beautifully balanced, with an elegant, understated profile, superb focus and a long, delicately chalky finish

  • Light orange-pink. Mineral- accented aromas and flavors of strawberry and blood orange, complicated by notes of toasty lees and white flowers. Tangy and precise, with strong finishing cut and lingering minerality. Distinctly elegant but shows plenty of depth and power.

  • Co-maceration of 20% chardonnay mostly from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and 80% pinot from Bouzy, Ambonnay and Tours-sur-Marne; similar saignée process as Laurent-Perrier; aged 3 years on lees; 8g/L dosage; cork; small production of 35,000 bottles, so as not to compete with Laurent- Perrier The personality of southern Montagne de Reims pinot noir and the dexterity of Michel Fauconnet with maceration rosé are both on display here in a style designed as a simple and fresh union of the structure of pinot noir and the delicacy and femininity of chardonnay. It was first created by Fauconnet's predecessor Alain Terrier, who set out to make a rosé of cassis character. The 2013 is refreshingly and unusually elegant for a maceration rosé, a tangy and characterful expression of pinot noir, tweaked with the tension of chardonnay. Boasting a medium salmon-copper hue, the strawberry hull and red apple fruit of pinot are focused by the bright acidity and fine chalk minerality of chardonnay, concluding with gentle tannin grip. Subtle, almost savoury notes of cracked pink pepper and rhubarb accent a lively finish. The 2012 base shone with a radiant medium salmon hue and spectacular finesse and restraint of pretty red berry fruits on release at the house, but sadly quickly faded to a copper tint and savoury characters of sun-dried tomato and paprika, its diminishing fruit definition amplifying the grip and dry texture of firm, fine tannin structure.

  • Light orange. An intensely perfumed nose displays mineral-accented cherry and red berry scents along with slow-building spice and smoke nuances. Tangy, focused and stony on the palate, offering refreshingly bitter redcurrant, blood orange and cherry flavors. Picks up a toasty quality on the incisive finish, with the red fruit notes echoing. - Josh Raynolds.
